I got banned
This isn't a rant so much, just something I wanted to post up incase anyone else has had a problem like mine.
I hopped on to do some pvp last night to find my account was banned and would not be active agian for another 13 hours. The error code it was giving me was Net Error 45, Character name was in breach of the EULA. So I contacted guildwars support and asked them to tell me which name was in use and what they were going to do about it. I get an email back this morning saying they were not sure which name was in conflict and to send them my character names(just did that). I logged on to see if my character was deleted or if the name was changed. NOTHING HAPPEND. Do you all think I will get in trouble agian if i get reported playing this character? I would be fine with changing his name, would really rather not lose the actual character.
CLIFFS:
Banned for inappropriate name
Email sent to guildwars support
They dont know what name
Get on this morning, nothing has changed
Will I get in trouble for using this character agian?

Its only irksome to get banned when you didn't deserve it and they don't bother to even check to se eif the name is offensive. At the least when someone reports an offensive name they could you know look at it and maybe make a note of the char rather than the nearly random ban approach they sometimes seem to take. This is not to say his name might not have been appropriate but transparency of operation from a-net would help me trust them more.

I wonder what would happen if someone's IG name was thier real name, but conidered offensive. I knew a girl named Candy Dix once.

Yeah you would think the OP would know exactly which name was in question without relying on Anet to provide it to him. <- not accussing just saying
I've seen plenty of names in game that are obvious plays on inappropriate words/names, I don't think it would be too hard for GW/Anet to have a listing of these names - since it can instant check upon creation to determine that the name has been used etc. There should be no need for us to report them, as they should be reviewing names created on a daily basis.

unless it was the one listed under his name which i would say was not offensive

he said he didnt know which one it was becasue anet didnt tell him. when you get banned for a name, they tell you what name it is and make you erase it. if they banned me for one of my names i would probably know which name it was, BUT they do ban you for names that arent even slightly offensive to you. for example, i had a character named 'douche bag', and i got a temp ban till i changed the name. i obviously knew which character it was. on the other hand, the name griffon is banned becasue there was a priest with that last name who molested children in the news somewhere. i think the person that brought this up was named after one of the family guy charaters.
now, in my case it was obvious and the ban said right on it the name i had to change. same with the person that got hit with the griffon ban. but i had that name and got banned, and anet didnt tell me which name to change on the ban, i would have no way of knowing what the hell was going on.
i think that is what OP is saying, he got a name ban and then when he logged on the name wasnt banned after all.

What I find really retarted is people getting banned for inappropriote names for characters... but people can call you all sorts of inappropriote names and nothing ever gets done.

Why would you do that? You're on a Guild Wars FANsite, posting in a Guild Wars FAN forum. Why in heaven's name would you spend 10 hours of your life doing childish and rude things like that? Why would you possibly negatively affect the experience of other innocent players?
If you're not a fan, there are a million forums you can post in. A thousand other games you can play. But bragging about what you did is nearly as wrong as doing it.
And Nick, why not just rename the character? We never block an account without reviewing the name. We never act on a report without investigating! If you truly feel it wasn't offensive, send me a PM and I'll investigate. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you agree it was probably across the line.

I think the keyword there is life; lack thereof, I think, answers your question.

So was 'Nick Hexon' the character name in question? or is there something you're not telling us
If it was - I can't see what's wrong with it.

Hmmm. Can I have that cookie
It doesn't offend me, but turd is in fact 'vulgar' according to most dictionaries. Some of the more sensitive types may well find that offensive.

I love how cultural references can be offensive in one culture and non-offensive in one culture.
I wonder what would Anet's reaction if I made a KKK guild, referring to this of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kataast... nak_ng_Bayan
and NOT the Ku Klux Klan.
